Be Sure Yo Do These 5 Things Before Moving Day
Prep your Fridge & Freezer:
If you are planning to move your refrigerator or freezer, it’s important to prep them for moving day. About 48 hours before your move make sure they are emptied and then unplug them and leave the doors open so they can thaw and dry out. Doing this helps to avoid leaking during transit and will also help to keep your items from mildewing if they are going into storage, or will be closed up on a truck for several days in transit.
Prep other Large Appliances:
If you are moving other large appliances, like your washer and dryer or icemakers, etc. Be sure that these items are disconnected and have been serviced before your driver arrives, unless other arrangements have been made with your move coordinator.
Make sure that your utilities (water, power, gas etc) have been turned on and are working at your new home so that you will have everything you need when you get there.
Empty Storage Areas:
It’s important to note that, for safety and liability reasons, your full-service relocation will not include crews moving items from crawl spaces or attics on moving day. Make sure that these items are moved to an easy to access location, like a bonus room or your garage so they can be quickly loaded onto the van. Also, if you have items in temporary storage that need to come with you, make sure they are picked up and brought to your home prior to moving day.
Prep Small Machinery Items
Small Machinery items include things like lawn mowers, blowers, weed eaters and other gas operated items. Make sure that these items have been safely drained of fuel and oil, prior to loading them on the truck. Items with gas and oil inside them are not safe for transport. In addition, make sure to reference our non-allowables checklist for other items not safe for transit.
